Welcome to the FPVC Beach program! So proud of all of the athletes that came out for our 2024 tryout! Over 130 of you! We love the enthusiasm for the outdoor season!
Rosters will be released via email by Monday night (May 27). Until then, if you have questions, we first recommend spending a few minutes reading through our very detailed FPVC Beach page below. Almost every question can be answered below.
Our teams play in local tournaments the majority of the season. We also offer 2 travel tournaments each summer and highly recommend each team traveling to these tournaments to compete!

Do I need a partner to participate in FPVC Beach?
A partner is not required to participate in either of our beach program. If numbers are even, you will be paired with another athlete who is without a partner.
What should I wear to training?
Athletic wear (shorts/spandex/athletic bottoms with shirt/tank top/sports bra) should be worn. No kneepads or shoes are needed. Sand socks are recommended because the sand can get hot.
Am I required to play in tournaments?
Playing in tournaments is not required but our program is focused on preparing athletes for tournaments.
Do I have to have experience playing beach volleyball?
Absolutely not! We love teaching new beach athletes about the sport!
Do I have to have volleyball experience?
Yes. We do require that our athletes have some volleyball foundation with at least a year of club experience
Does FPVC register me for beach tournaments?
Unlike in indoor, FPVC plays no role in tournament registration. It is up to the individual athlete to register for tournaments.
Is there coaching at every tournament?
Team Travel tournaments guarantee coaching, but it is not guaranteed for others. We have a google form on our 2023 tournaments page so we can keep track of where athletes are playing each week. Please fill out that form each weekend you play to keep us in the loop.
FPVC Beach provides new players with an introduction to the sport and allows experienced players the opportunity to strengthen their skills or even explore a new position. Our beach program takes place only in the summer.
FPVC offers a specialized Competition Program for beach athletes. CP requires athletes to try out. Players are responsible for registering for beach tournaments locally, in the bay area, or even in southern California. FPVC Beach requires an AAU membership in order to play. Some tournament organizations might require another membership.
We are founding members of the Sacramento Valley Beach Association. This association includes local clubs with the goal of competing under one entity.
Our dedicated, experienced and fun coaches include collegiate beach athletes, FPVC coaches, and the FPVC club director. FPVC Beach, while still a new program, has quickly become one of the largest and most competitive beach programs in the Sacramento area. Our newly renovated sand courts provide athletes with soft sand, access to a hose and access to shade. We work with athletes of all beach skill levels. We teach volleyball fundamentals to beginning players and advanced techniques to those with beach/outdoor experience. Beginners are taught the basics needed to have fun playing, and advanced players learn skills to help fine-tune their game.
Tryouts are May 21st and 23rd 2024. To register for tryouts click the link above or go to our tryout page by clicking the link below. Please continue to read through this page for all beach season details!
Fun Fact! The transfer of skills between indoor and beach are closer than any other two CIF sports! While still completely different games, indoor and beach rely on explosive movements and techniques that benefit both sports. Additionally, with only 2 players playing an entire match and less coach intervention, beach allows players to develop the internal motivation, self awareness, and coachability needed to excel at the next level.
Beach Volleyball is one of the fastest growing sports in the country. It also is one of the best known methods for improving indoor performance. An athlete learns to move more fluidly on a court, develops court awareness, and the sand leads to significant improvements in physical condition and jumping ability. More importantly, with burnout and injury statistics at an all time high, the benefit of playing a different sport during the off season that still greatly correlates to indoor volleyball cannot be stressed enough.
"It’s easier to take your outdoor skills into the gym than to bring your indoor skills outside. Simple reason. Beach volleyball forces you to have all the skills. That’s why I think it’s a good idea for indoor players to play on the beach. . . . Learning those skills can only help improve a player’s indoor performance. All my years playing on the beach as a kid certainly helped my indoor game. If nothing else, a player’s quickness and jump will be increased by playing on soft sand."
